FIVE TIPS TO START TRUSTING GOD AS YOUR HEALER
BY MELISSA TAFT
A few years back, I decided to get some very extensive blood work during a routine health exam. Several weeks later, the doctor scheduled me back into her office to share the results.
“Melissa, you have a thyroid disorder called Hashimoto’s disease and you’ve also tested positive for other auto-immune markers and you have several allergies.”
The allergy report suggested I was allergic to everything except vodka and bacon. Lol!
With respect and admiration for my doc’s thoroughness, I simply looked her right in the eye and responded: “I refuse to accept those findings!”
That very bold statement, or declaration, plus my faith in Jesus as my Healer, literally activated the healing process in my body immediately.
Without changing my diet, without any medication and without any treatment, I was completely healed from all of the above.
I love sharing my story because most Christian women I know are struggling with some kind of health situation, and desperately praying for something other than science and medicine.
Been there, done that!
Before I continue, let’s get one thing straight. I’m not a doctor. I don’t even play one on T.V. But the beautiful and simple truth is: our words, our thoughts and our trust in God play a much larger role in healing than even medicine and kale smoothies do. :)
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
– Proverbs 3:5-6
I would love to share a few tips to help you to start trusting God more with your health.
1. Don’t accept worldly information as the Gospel – Your Doctor, WebMD, a blood test, and other people may be well-intentioned and have a respectable level of expertise, but they aren’t God. Never give anybody or anything the power to have the last word over your health.
When you are told “You have cancer,” or “You will need to be on medication for the rest of your life,” these are word curses that you have to rebuke right away. Sickness is an attack from the enemy...period.
2. Stop Owning Your Illnesses – I can’t tell you how many women I hear take ownership of their health issues. Doing so is you also cursing yourself.
Watch for verbiage such as:
· “I always get sick.”
· “I have cancer.”
· “My heart condition.”
· “Diabetes runs in my family.”
I recently heard about a Christian woman who had made friends with her cancer tumor. She didn’t just take ownership...she made it her buddy. (Insert shoulder shrug here). She named it “Hal” or something. She said her and Hal would go spend the day together. Hal was her friend.
In scripture we are told to “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11). Don’t make friends with it and don’t take ownership of it.
3. Get into The Word – Sickness can be the result of an open door to the enemy. One of the best ways to close open doors is to read God’s Word. Doing so sanctifies you.
My daughter, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.
Proverbs 4:20-22
Let me also remind you that Jesus rebuked the devil with scripture. You and I can do the same with sickness.
4. Repent – Repent means to change your mind. If, in the past, you have thought that doctors had all the answers or that they were your fist line of defense, go to God and repent. Tell Him that you weren’t trusting him and now you want to.
I had to do this as I used to be addicted to therapies like acupuncture, prolotherapy, Botox...and even vitamins. They were my God. I had placed all of that “Pharmakeia” as my idol. In other words, I didn’t trust God. I have since repented and am seeing the fruit of it. Amen!
5. Get Deliverance – Sickness is a spirit. Go study Luke 13:11-13. It says:
And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
What should jump out at you is the phrase, “spirit of infirmity,” along with, “thou are loosed from thine infirmity.” This validates that this sickness was a result of a demonic spirit and that deliverance was needed.
When I started to truly trust God as my Healer, my health turned around over time. My suggestion to you is simple: Stop idolizing the knowledge of man and make Jesus your Healer. When you do this, you will move health mountains in your life!
